Why an Au Pair?

Au Pair Issue discussed in this morning's BBC News (Available on BBC IPLAYER, BBC TWO, 11/02/2021, 10am Feature, Relevant section starting at approximately 10:40am)An increasing number of families are now left without childcare and having to reconsider/reduce or even stop work as EU au pairs are unable to enter the UK and provide vital childcare support. There is currently NO viable route for EU au pairs to enter the UK.When will the UK Home Office listen and take action? #BAPAA #saveaupairs #Brexit #BBC #YMS ... See MoreSee Less

The British Au Pair Agencies Association are raising concerns about the future of the au pair programme post Brexit as a result of a lack of government support for au pair visas for European au pairs ☹️The Future of Youth Mobility/Au Pairs? There is a great contradiction when it comes to the assurances made to the British Au Pair Agencies Association (BAPAA) by numerous UK ministers v. actual actions taken by the ministers to secure the future of au pair program/youth mobility in England. To directly quote the Minister for Future Borders and Immigration, Kevin Foster: "Looking to the future, we have indicated our desire to negotiate a youth mobility arrangement with the EU or with individual countries within it if a collective agreement is not possible."Despite the above, BAPAA's recent communication with the EU commission regretfully confirmed that the UK "did not put forward proposals for future mobility arrangements in its negotiation directives nor in its draft proposals for an agreement" The year of 2020 is rapidly drawing to a close, and the thousands of families relying on au pair childcare help in order to work in the UK, have no clarity over how they will be able to manage their childcare come 2021! It is about time for the UK government to end the empty promises - real action and steps must be taken towards securing the youth mobility program for EU nationals!#brexit #childcarecrisis #culturalexchange #BAPAA #saveaupairs #actnow #eucommission #homeoffice ... We recommend everyone monitors updates from both the UK and au pairs’ home governments closely and follows their advice. We are sure host families and au pairs will already be talking about the situation together, do keep those conversations going in light of the ever changing circumstances to continue to discuss the options available and find the best solution for you both. We hope you and your family and friends stay safe and healthy during this worrying time, and we look forward to life getting back to normal. ... See MoreSee Less
